Our Projects

Design of Zero Waste Campus

Shenzhen OCT-Hua Ecological Environment Protection Foundation

In 2020, we were comissioned by the Shenzhen OCT-Hua Ecological Environment Protection Foundation to promote and pilot "Zero Waste Campus" in a primary school in Shenzhen. After 9 months of research, design, and prototyping, we implemented a set of environmental protection intallations and educational activities on campus that were both fun-to-play and interactive. Following the "Zero Waste Campus" handbook we designed, the whole school could cultivate zero waste habits step by step throughout the school year, and students could learn about relevant knowledge while having fun.

Tour Experience Design of Chung Ying Street

Shenzhen Foundation for International Exchange & Cooperation and Chung Ying Street Administration Bureau

Chung Ying Street, bordering and administered by both Shenzhen and Hong Kong, is a hitoric landmark famous for its "one street, two systems" characteristic. It was also a famous place for shopping foreign goods during the 1990s. In 2020, Shenzhen Foundation for International Exchange and Cooperation and Chung Ying Street Administration Bureau commisioned us to upgrade the touring expeirence of Chung Yung Street by manifesting its local history. The visitors can now learn about the landmark's economic and cultural value while shopping, and experience the street with a more personal touch.

Sexuality Education Board Game for Children

Following the International Technical Guidance on Sexuality Education by UNESCO, this game aims to help children establish a healthy and positive understanding of sex and gender.

Communication Design for Urban Ecological Park

Shenzhen Mangrove Wetland Conservation Foundation

More and more human-nature interactions are happening in ecological parks. Yet urban citizens seldom realize the environmental significance of these facilities. In 2020, Shenzhen Mangrove Wetland Conservation Foundation invited us to design a communication system for Futian Mangrove Ecological Park. After a series of field research, we designed a system that would, first, help visitors learn about the sites and educational resources of the park. Second, it encourages people to realize the cohabitation between themselves and wild animals living at the city border, and reflect on their relationships with the larger ecological system.

Redesigning the Passenger Service Center

Beijing Urban Construction Design & Development Group Co. (UCD)

Beijing UCD collaborated with us to conduct a user experience research on Beijing subway. We decided to focus on the Service+ passenger service center, also the entrance of the subway station, to explore the potential to update the space and better understand passengers' needs during their rides. The research contained 3 stages and involved over 50 passengers. We discovered 3 key needs of Beijing subway passengers: reduce anxiety, increase convenience, and experience the "human" side of Beijing. Based on these findings, we then redesigned the space of Service+ and updated its services.

Interactive Eco-Discovery Maps of Shenzhen

Shenzhen Foundation for International Exchange and Cooperation (SFIEC)

SFIEC and 8 other natural protection NGOs collaborated with Make-a-point to design a set of interactive eco-discovery maps of Shenzhen. This interactive system has both online and offline components. People can take the physical Eco-Discovery Maps for free in parks and tourist centers in Shenzhen, while they can follow the maps to play "treasure hunt" in 5 specific parks using their smartphones. The online component would help park visitors learn more about the ecology of Shenzhen and open their sensations when touring the parks.

B Corps “Building Better Business” Board Game

Critical Design Workshop with Monash University

Monash University

We were invited to host a three-day workshop in Beijing for a design class. The workshop contained three stages: the study of anthropological theories, field research, and final conceptual design. This workshop helped the students learn about the Chinese society, and paved the way for their upcoming in-depth fieldwork in China.

Redesigning the Charity Supermarket

Ifeng Network & Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences

Located in Kulun Banner, Inner Mongolia, the “Aixin Supermarket” is a targeted poverty alleviation project that integrates various social resources to improve the living condition of rural residents. The poor households are graded by local officers bimonthly in terms of their household hygiene, production and participation in collective activities. The poor households can, then, use their grades to exchange living materials at Aixin Supermarket. In 2018, we designed an upgraded plan for this charity supermarket.

CoLab - Design for the Common Good with University Students

Yenching Academy of Peking University

To cultivate talents more sustainablely, we collaborated with Yenching Academy of Peking University to establish “CoLab”, a project-based and experiential learning curriculum on social design. In 2018, we explored the topic of "aging" in China with 20 graduate students from Peking University using the methods of social design. The students formed into three groups focusing on “technology”, “nutrition” and “health management”. Throughout the 7 weeks, students visited local community and partners in order to learn about the elderly's everyday needs and challenges. Finally, these insights were transformed into executable concept products and services.
